What this means is that the commando is better than any other survivor at proccing on-hit item effects.

Phase blast, despite having a proc coefficient of 0.5, counts as 8 separate hits and has a cooldown of 3 seconds. Suppressive fire also has a proc coefficient of 1, but counts at 6 separate hits (this also increase with attack speed, but more on that later). His basic attack also counts as 2 separate hits. You should immediately notice the following: All of his skills that do damage, except for the phase blast, have a proc coefficient of 1. All in all, the commando should be treated as a short to medium range survivor for optimal damage output. It is important to familiarize yourself with the distance at which this begins to occur, and to remain within a sufficient proximity to enemies so most of his attacks do maximum damage. This is true for his basic attack, and suppressive fire. Many of the commando's attacks experience damage fall-off (his attacks do reduced damage at a distance.

There's a few things to consider in order to understand what the commando is good at, and how to be more consistent with him: I don't know how familiar you are with the game mechanics, or even your playing habits, so I'm going to type this response to be as detailed as possible. Is there just some fundamental part of Commando that I'm missing or not understanding? Because the way things are now it doesn't seem like unlocking his alts is going to be a very fun time. Normally I would just unlock his alts and move on, but 2/3 of them require doing long runs with him (killing an Overloading Worm and going 20+ stages without any lunar items). It just feels like Commando requires you to get lucky with good crowd control items like Ukes and such to even stand a chance. Commando effectively has zero crowd control by default which really sucks in a game that's almost entirely about dealing with crowds of enemies, and that wouldn't even feel that bad if he did good single target damage to take stuff out quickly, but he doesn't. If there's one thing I've learned from this, it's that Laser Glaive has spoiled me big time. The same problem applies to beefier enemies and bosses - either I focus on taking out the small guys but I can't keep up with how fast they're spawning, or I focus on the big guys and before I know it I have a horde of smaller enemies tearing me to bits that I can't hope to prune down in any reasonable amount of time. Normally my solution to a problem like that would just be to not worry about killing everything and run away, but as far as I can tell enemies have near infinite aggro range, so even if I do run away they're just going to catch up to me the next time I stop and I'll have an even bigger horde of enemies to deal with. Normally with Huntress I could take out a group of enemies and have a bit of a breather before more start to spawn, but with Commando I just can't do that. It feels like he takes forever to kill even the most basic enemies, so much so that he just can't keep up with the rate of enemy spawns, even right from the start. Now I'm not saying I was expecting no difference at all, but compared to Huntress.Commando feels insanely weak. Figured I'd go down the list and start with Commando. I've been maining Huntress since I started playing, and now I'm at the point where the only challenges I have left are getting the couple of items that require Monsoon (and the stupid hermit crab thing) and unlocking the alt skills/skins for the other survivors.
